H.R. 16302 To provide workmen's compensation protection to individuals denied benefits under State law for disability or death from lung cancer caused by exposure to ionizing radiation during their employment in uranium mines; to authorize the Secretary of Labor to provide or make provisions for payment of supplementary compensation to persons receiving workmen's compensation benefits funder State law for such disability or death; to reimburse States for the payment of certain workmen's compensation claims; to provide grants to States for research and planning with respect to ionizing radiation injuries in uranium mines; and for other purposes.
Scope and Content
Chester Earl Holifield (1903-1995) -- also known as Chet Holifield -- of Montebello, Los Angeles County, Calif. Born in Mayfield, Graves County, KY, December 3, 1903. Moved to Montebello in 1920 and engaged in the manufacture and selling of men's apparel 1920-1943; U.S. Representative from California 19th District, 1943-75. Congressional adviser to international conferences on uses of atomic energy, nuclear weapons testing, water desalinization, and disarmament. Upon his retirement from the House, he resumed the manufacture and selling of men's apparel; died February 6, 1995.
