Scope and Contents
Political prisoners and their supporters often maintain that the imprisoned has been detained at the behest of the government and various other institutions of law and order. This series contains news stories on arrests and subsequent justice campaigns on behalf of the alleged falsely imprisoned. Also included are essays, letters, and other publications written and collected by the imprisoned. In addition, this series includes the stories of those not only imprisoned but also information on the assassination and murder of political activists such as Huey P. Newton, George Jackson, and Malcolm X, and the murder of figures such as Latasha Harlins. While people like Harlins were not explicitly involved in political activism her murder sparked massive political debate. Finally, there is a plethora of literature explaining the prison system. For files pertaining specifically to the police see “Police Misconduct and Accountability.”
