Scope and Content

From the Sub-Series:

The subseries includes three main groupings: general files on campaigns, files on politicians, and files on the 1964 Republican Presidential primary. The general files include information on how to run a campaign, information on the laws and regulations of elections, information on candidates and their campaigns, poll results, advertisements, and election returns all arranged chronologically. The files on politicians include information about individual campaigns, press releases, advertisements, clippings, and brochures arranged alphabetically. The files on the 1964 Republican Presidential primary focus on the candidates Barry Morris Goldwater and William Warren Scranton, who both sought the Republican nomination. Barry Morris Goldwater represented the right-wing conservative part of the Republican Party, while William Warren Scranton was supported by the liberals and moderates at the Republican National Convention. Barry Morris Goldwater won the nomination, but lost the 1964 Presidential election to incumbent Lyndon B. Johnson.
