One of Moshe Lazar’s fields of specialization included medieval drama and literature, including psychological and religious themes. L’Advocacie Nostre Dame is a 14th-century French medieval poem that tells the story of an imagined lawsuit between the Virgin Mary and the Devil who is trying to reclaim human souls for Hell. Several folders in this series concern this particular work, including copies of the work itself. All of it is in French. Other files in this series are copies of articles or parts of books on medieval literature, as well as Lazar’s own notes and manuscript fragments. Medieval authors represented include Geoffrey Chaucer, Giovanni Fiorentino, Rutebeuf, Giovanni Boccaccio, and Eustache Marcadé.

Most of the materials in this collection are in English. However, many articles, notes, and publications are in Spanish, German, Ladino, Hebrew, and other languages. Assistance with the Hebrew language materials was provided by Dr. Yaffa Weisman of Hebrew Union College.
