Scope and Content

Enclosed are two digital discs and a letter of transmittal from the Sheriff's Department signed by Captain David Smith, on behalf of Sheriff Leroy D. Baca, describing the content of the discs as follows: "Please find enclosed, two DVDs containing redacted investigative files and records pertaining to the investigation into the death of Ruben Salazar during the riots of East Los Angeles on August 28, 1970 [sic.] as promised by Sheriff Baca. The first contains volumes I and II of the death investigation including, witness interviews, internal records, files, media information, and memos tracking daily progress of the Coroner's Inquest, photographs, and a copy of the overiew prepared by the Office of Independent Review. The second contains audio files of Sheriff's Radio traffic from Frequencies 1 and 2 (primary and secondary channels)." Also enclosed are two envelopes in which the discs were mailed to the USC Libraries. The inner envelope bears the numbers 270-15564-0284-490 and the outer envelope has the USC Libraries mailing address and the Sheriff's Department's return address, postmarked Aug 02, 2011.
