Scope and Content

From the Series:

This series is comprised of a broad variety of personal and business correspondence to Allan Hunter, and a small amount from him to others. Much of it concerns his early travels and missions from tbe 1920s through 1940s. The bulk of the correspondence is concentrated within two decades-- the 1940s when there was much discussion of war, Japan, etc., and the 1970s after Reverend Hunter had retired and was the reverend emeritus of the church. Part of the series is arranged both chronologically and by topic; the second part of the series is arranged only by decade. A notable section of the series includes a group of letters labeled "overseas letters" dated between 1946 and 1949. They are mostly letters from refugee families and organizations (such as orphanages) in Europe and Asia thanking Hunter and his church for food and supplies that were sent to them. Most are in English or translated English, but some are in German, French, Japanese, and other languages. Included with the overseas letters is a small knitted doll, though it is not known which letter it accompanied.
