Herbert G. Klein's work in public, philanthropic, and community service series consists of correspondence, clippings, notes, photographs, ephemera, realia, compact discs, programs, brochures, and transcripts, 1946-2009, created, collected, and used by Herbert G. Klein in his philanthropic, community, and public service activities. Of note are the materials from his tenure on the Commission of the Californias (to which he was appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan); his work with the American Society of Newspaper Editors; his participation in the Kiwanis Club of San Diego and the Alhambra Rotary Club; his role in the erection of the Jack Murphy memorial at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium; his role in the establishment of an Olympic sports training center in San Diego; and the establishment of the lecture series in his name at the University of Southern California.
