Richard Nixon's presidency working files subseries contains correspondence, reports, notes, clippings, calendars, memorandums, schedules, telegrams, typescripts, transcripts, audiocassettes, audiotapes, press releases, publications, ephemera, realia, maps, photographs, slides, and motion pictures, 1965-1980 and undated (bulk 1968-1973) created, collected, and used by Herbert G. Klein and his staff in the course of his daily activities as White House Director of Communications. The records contain daily schedules; memorandums to Nixon and members of the White House staff, including H.R. Haldeman, Chuck Colson, Spiro Agnew, and William Safire; Cabinet, Congressional Leadership, and Saturday planning committee meeting notes; subject files maintained by Klein's assistants; communications policy information; clippings about Klein and the Department of Communications; speech schedules; press mailings; election information; information for and about Klein's many speaking engagements, including his notes, recordings, and films of appearances; clippings, notes, photographs, recordings, and films documenting international trips made by Nixon, Klein, Robert H. Finch, and Henry Kissinger; clippings, press releases, transcripts and other press documents describing the Nixon administration's relationship with and perception by the press; clippings and related material describing aspects of the Watergate scandal; government and administration publications, reports, and presentations used by Klein and his staff in preparation for speaking engagements, press briefings, and news conferences; reports, memorandaums and related materials documenting aspects of administration policy towards the war in Vietnam; campaign ephemera, clippings, notes, and related material used in planning and executing strategies for the 1970 and 1972 elections; cartoons and other graphic materials, realia and ephemera collected by Klein during his tenure in the Nixon administration; and photographs and moving images documenting Nixon and the Nixon administration and its activities.
