Scope and Contents

Richard Nixon's early political career working files subseries contains routine correspondence and memorandums, press releases and transcripts, clippings, appointment calendars, notes, photographs, and ephemera, generated, received, collected, and created by Herbert G. Klein, 1957-1962 (bulk 1959-1961), in performance of his daily duties as Special Assistant to the Vice President and Press Secretary for the Vice President during the 1958 and 1960 campaigns, and during Nixon's second term as Vice President. The subseries contains memorandums sent to H.R. Haldeman by Klein; letters to and from Nixon that were handled by Klein's office; and non-Nixon related material, including letters of congratulation sent to Klein upon being appointed editor of the San Diego Union.
