Abstract

Prints from a portfolio "Army and Navy of the United States", depicting various military scenes, primarily soldiers on horseback. The prints are hand colored. Three of the prints include artists signatures--Andre Castaigne and W.S. (William Sullivant Vanderbilt) Allen. They all include copyright dates of 1891 or 1892.

Abstract

Thesa Jolly was an American volunteer of the Peace Corps in Korea from July 1972-1974. Her father, Donald Jolly, was a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. This small collection comprises primarily correspondence, clippings, brochures, guides, memos, and articles relating both personally and professionally to Thesa and Donald Jolly. The collection also includes various forms of ephemera, photos, slides, and a few books.

James C. Owens, Jr. papers

Abstract

This small collection of memorabilia is comprised of high school and college photographs of Owen, several photographs of him in military uniform as well as of the destroyer named for him, citations from the Secretary of the Navy for the squadron's heroism, a Purple Heart certificate, and diplomas from Los Angeles High School as well as USC. Many of the naval documents and certificates are very tightly rolled as they were stored in a narrow tube.

Max E. Shaffer papers

Abstract

Exams and instructional material, maps, and navigation equipment collected and created by Max E. Shaffer during the early 1940s. Shaffer studied at USC's Naval Preparatory School, the Naval Air Reserve educational center in New Orleans, and later at the Naval Air Transport Service Command Advanced Naval Air Navigation program in Corpus Christi. Also included are some of Shaffer's military orders.
