Abstract

This small group of records consists chiefly of oral history transcripts, papers, and newspaper clippings of faculty members (of USC's School of Social Work) and other prominent individuals in the social work/ mental health community. They include files on Genevieve Carter, Lonis Liverman, Linda Poverny, Robert W. Roberts, and about fifty other persons in the social welfare field. The files are arranged alphabetically.

Jessie E. Dean papers

Abstract Jessie E. Dean was employed by the Los County Department of Charities from 1919 to 1943, and served as Supervisor in the successive Divisions of Outdoor Relief, County Welfare and Indigent Relief. A citation of appreciation from her fellow workers, found in this collection, noted that she was the first, or "near first" trained social worker to practice in Los Angeles. Abstract The Neighborhood Adult Participation Project (NAPP) records consist of correspondence, reports, and training materials, 1962-1976 and undated, that document the founding and activities of this Office of Economic Opportunity-funded project. Abstract

Letters, photographs, ephemera and a large scrapbook created and collected by Mary ("Mollie") Stoddard, president of the Los Angeles Florence Crittenton Home in the 1920s. The papers document the Home, and Mollie's personal and philanthropic pursuits. Mary ("Mollie") Wilcox Stoddard (later Mary Wilcox Hurd) was born in Placerville, CA in 1870. Mollie was a long time supporter and president of the Los Angeles Florence Crittenton Home.
