Included are records from Burke's tenure in the California Assembly (1966-1972), U.S. Congress (1973-1978), and the Los Angeles Angeles County Board of Supervisor (1979-1980). Records also include her campaign for California State Attorney General (1978).

Materials in the collection document his career as a concert pianist and music educator in Los Angeles. Included is McCoy's book, Black Tomorrow (Vantage Press, 1976), which examines the evolution and influence of music in African-American culture.
