Abstract

A collection of screenplay drafts, research notes, subject files, correspondence, photographs, books, audio and video tapes, and one 16mm film compiled by Lorenzo DeStefano for a film about G. Allan Hancock's expeditions to the Galapagos Islands during 1930s. DeStefano never completed his film, but his research for the project--which began in the 1970s--forms a significant collection of documentation on the people and events involved in the Hancock Expeditions.

Abstract Friedrich (Frederick) Hacker was a distinguished psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and cultural figure. Born in Vienna in 1914, Hacker left Austria soon after the Anschluss and made his way to Los Angeles via New York and Topeka, Kansas. In Los Angeles, Hacker founded the Hacker Clinic in Beverly Hills (1945) where he treated numerous Hollywood filmmakers and actors and where he socialized with other well-known members of the German-speaking émigré community.
