Scope and Content of Collection

The bulk of the collection consists of psychological surveys, 1977-1986, on homosexuality within heterosexual marriages, and on gay recovering alcoholics. The collection also includes a small number of audio recordings of interviews on the topic of homosexuality within heterosexual marriages. The remainder of the collection consists of other writings, coursework, printed research materials, correspondence, and administrative materials.

Researchers wishing to publish materials must obtain permission in writing from ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives as the physical owner. Biography

James David Latham was born on January 20, 1954. He studied Psychology at California State University, Fullerton, and earned his M.A. in Psychology in April of 1986. The primary focus of his research was homosexuality within heterosexual marriages, but he also did a major study on gay recovering alcoholics. He was a member of the Association of Gay Psychologists, the Speaker's Bureau of the Orange County Gay Community Center, and the Council on Religion and the Homosexual. In addition to being an activist for gay rights, he was also active in the women's movement and the anti-war movement. His work history included positions as a youth director for a church, and as a research coordinator for the Federal Correctional Institution of Terminal Island, California. He died at the age of 32, in April of 1986.
