Scope and Content

From the Collection:

This collection includes the correspondence, diaries, manuscripts, photographs, videocassettes and funeral-related documents, 1980-1994, of Daniel P. Warner, AIDS educator and co-founder of the Los Angeles Shanti Foundation. Materials in this collection primarily concern Warner's experience living with HIV and AIDS from the 1980s until the time of his death in 1993.

Among the items in this collection are four diaries from the years 1980 to 1991, as well miscellaneous manuscripts and loose diary pages from the years 1984 to 1992. The correspondence addresses both his personal experiences and his organizational activities, particularly his involvement with the National Candlelight March and West Hollywood CARES, from the years 1982 to 1983. The personal documents in the collection include copies of his death certificate, will, medical bills, and documents related to his memorial service. The collection also includes the correspondence of Jim Hooker, as it relates to his duties as the executor of Warner's will, from 1993.

These materials also include videocassettes: one of Warner's memorial service; and another that includes an edited video of photographs, home videos, coverage of the National Candlelight March, and clips from his appearances on 60 Minutes, Channel 7 Eyewitness News, and Channel 5 News.
