Biographical / Historical

The Korean American Pioneer Council (KAPC) was established in 1995 in Los Angeles, California, by descendants of the "first wave" of Korean American immigrants. KAPC was initially formed to help the new Korean American Museum (KAM) collect Korean historical materials. KAPC founders and early officers included Rev. Lester Kim, Col. Young O. Kim, Ralph Ahn, Dr. George Kim (vice president), Joe Lyou (president), Helen Chen (secretary), and Lloyd Hahn (treasurer). In 2002, KAPC began assisting the Korean Heritage Library at the University of Southern California to acquire materials. It later expanded its mission to more broadly "preserve the legacy, record, and promote the education, understanding and appreciation of the experience and history of the Pioneer Generation of the Korean American community."
