Scope and Contents

This collection consists of six scrapbooks relating to films in which actor Joseph Cotten (1905-1994) appeared; includes miscellaneous stills and photographs. The collection covers 1931-1962. The scrapbooks subjects include Citizen Kane (RKO, 1941) and The Magnificent Ambersons (RKO, 1942); publicity, reviews and clippings relating to other films in which Cotten appeared; screenplays for Since You Went Away (UA, 1944), I'll Be Seeing You (UA, 1944), and Duel in the Sun (SRO, 1946); typescript of Horse Eats Hat with Orson Welles' notes; miscellaneous stills and photographs.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Cotten (1905-1994) was an American actor in radio, stage, television, and film productions. His friendship and work with Orson Welles gained Cotten recognition from roles in Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, and Journey into Fear. He remained active in film and television until 1981, when health issues ended his career.
