Historical Note
The Speakers' Club of Los Angeles was founded by Emery E. Olson in 1931 with the goals of disseminating information about the administration of government, helping its members develop their public speaking skills, and encouraging cooperation between government personnel and the public. Membership was limited to fifty male members, and to be eligible for membership, a prospective member had to occupy a prominent position in public administration in a federal, state, county, district, or municipal office or be engaged in an academic or other research pursuit concerning government affairs. The club, sponsored by USC, met the last Wednesday of each month.
