Scope and Contents

This small artificial collection contains various printed promotional items for Mexican and American productions starring Mexican actor Dolores del Río (1904-1983), chiefly dating from 1928 to 1958. There are 9 lobby cards for the films Aquel Mexico Lindo, Maria Candelaria (1944), Las Abandonadas (1945), La Otra (1946), four for El Nino y La Niebla (1953), and Adonde van Nuestros Hijos (1958); 3 pieces of sheet music: Ramona (circa 1928); “Flying down to Rio” (1933), and “To call you my own” from In Caliente (1935); 3 production stills: Ramona (1928), Wonder Bar (1934) and La Casa Chica (1950); a 1958 program titled: "Teatro Fabregas Dolores del Rio en su debut 'El Abanico' de Oscar Wilde"; and 3 postcards: one from 1939 and one Las Abandonadas reproduction (2 copies), ca. 2000. There is also the December 21, 1927, issue of Rotográfico.

Biographical / Historical

Dolores del Río (1904-1983) was a Mexican actor featured in more than 50 English- and Spanish-language movies. She began her career in 1925 starring first in silent films and later in talkies. In 1942 she left Hollywood for Mexico City, where she formed the first actor's union.
