Typescript of Goodspeed's (1871-1962) Biblical novel, Man Put Asunder. Educator, author, and translator, Goodspeed began his life-long affiliation with the University of Chicago in 1894 as a teacher. He subsequently became professor of the Bible and Patristic Greek, secretary to the president, chairman of the department, distinguished services professor, and professor emeritus, a post he held from 1937. Of his more than fifty books, Goodspeed's translations of both the Old and New Testaments brought him popularity for their modernized texts. He also wrote books on different aspects of the Bible, including The Story of the Bible and How to Read the Bible.
