Subseries 1 includes correspondence of a personal nature and unrelated to Rexroth's professional endeavors. Included here are letters, postcards, and greeting cards from personal friends and acquaintances, but also from unknown well-wishers, aspiring poets, and what Rexroth himself called "autograph hounds." Many of the items are annotated by Rexroth regarding how to respond, e.g. "No answer."
