Scope and Content

This series contains Mayne’s correspondence, predominantly to and from Ruth Le Prade, a few pieces of ephemera, and Mayne’s typescripts and manuscripts. Also included in this series is correspondence from Dolores McBride to Ruth Le Prade about Mayne and photographs of Mayne in the Poets Garden.

Biographical note

Eric Mayne (1865-1947) was a stage and movie actor. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, and moved to the United States around 1913. He began his career as a stage actor in Ireland and on London’s West End stages. After moving to Los Angeles, he appeared in over 180 films, and became a noted lecturer on Shakespeare. He planted the Shakespeare Tree in the Poets Garden.
