This series contains MacManus’s correspondence to and from Ruth Le Prade, typescripts, photographs and ephemera. It also contains a small amount of correspondence between Le Prade and other parties about MacManus.

Biographical note
Originally from County Donegal, Ireland, Seumas MacManus (b. 1869) moved to the United States in 1899. As an artist, traveler, and writer, Seumas MacManus considered himself a "shanachie," or writer in the tradition of Irish storytelling that dated back to that country's antiquity. He married the Irish poet Anna Johnston in 1901, but she passed away the following year. In 1911, he remarried and had one daughter, Patricia. He passed away in 1960.
