Scope and Content

This series contains Moon Kwan’s correspondence with Ruth Le Prade, his daughter Rebecca’s correspondence with Le Prade and Le Prade’s correspondence with other people about Kwan. Also included in this series are newspaper clippings by or about Kwan and ephemera pertaining to Chinese movies shown in Los Angeles.

Biographical note

Moon Kwan (1896-1995) was born in Guangzhou, China, and moved to San Francisco as a young boy. Kwan was a poet, screenwriter and film producer who moved to Los Angeles in 1915. He stayed there until 1920, but then spent much of his life travelling between San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. He planted a ginkgo tree in the Poets Garden in 1934.
