Abstract
Prints from a portfolio "Army and Navy of the United States", depicting various military scenes, primarily soldiers on horseback. The prints are hand colored. Three of the prints include artists signatures--Andre Castaigne and W.S. (William Sullivant Vanderbilt) Allen. They all include copyright dates of 1891 or 1892.

A collection of five photographs of African American Buffalo soldiers. One of the frequent assignments of Buffalo Soldiers was to assist the early frontiers of the Western United States. These African American soldiers contributed greatly to pathfinding, road and trail construction, building telegraph lines, and mapping out much of the frontier for homesteaders.
